General Information

We are delighted that you are considering applying to Touro College Berlin and we are here to support you throughout the application process. Touro College Berlin seeks to admit students with positive energy and a passion for learning. Applications are evaluated on an ongoing basis until all spaces in the program have been filled. Students may apply to enter in either the Fall semester (beginning in late August) or the Spring semester (beginning in early February).

Academic eligibility

To enroll at Touro College Berlin, successful applicants must hold a high school diploma or equivalent sufficient for entry to higher level study, such as:

  • Abitur, Fachabitur
  • High school diploma and/or Advanced Placement diploma (AP or APID)
  • Bagrut
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma
  • International Baccalaureate (IBCC) certificate, when in connection with a high school diploma
  • GCE A-Levels, GCSE and IGCSE (showing at least 5 subjects graded C or better)
  • Other school graduation certificate

All documents written in a language other than English or German must be accompanied by a certified English translation. High school graduation certificates may require further documentation after review.

How to Apply

US Undergraduate Degrees

Entry Requirements

  • American High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Equivalent secondary certificates include: the German Abitur, Israeli Bagrut, International Baccalaureate diploma and the GED, among others.
  • For any documents not written in English or in German, please provide a certified translation of the document.

Applicants to the American B.Sc. program are required to have a high school graduation certificate equivalent to the American high school diploma. If our office cannot evaluate the equivalency of a secondary school certificate, an applicant may be asked to arrange for an official evaluation to be completed by a service like World Education Services (WES). Students without a qualifying high school graduation certificate are required to submit other evidence of qualifying for college-level studies, such as the General Education Diploma (GED).

How to Apply

Graduate Degrees

MA Holocaust Communication and Tolerance

Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent recognized in Germany.

Touro College Berlin welcomes applications from college graduates worldwide in a variety of fields, such as history, philosophy, German, Eastern European studies, sociology, Judaic studies, political science, social psychology, gender studies, theology, journalism, or theater and the arts. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in some aspect of the Master’s subject matter.

The MA in Holocaust Communication and Tolerance requires a good command of German. Lectures and seminars are delivered in German, and research is required to be conducted in German archives. Exams and homework can, however, be submitted in English.

How to Apply

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Entry Requirements

  • American bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Applicants should hold an American bachelors degree (or equivalent) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Their undergraduate transcripts should show successful completion of the following nine prerequisite business courses: principles of accounting I and II, finance, management, marketing, microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, and computer literacy in business applications.

If applicants have not completed the above prerequisite undergraduate courses, have a low CGPA, or hold a bachelors degree unrelated to business, they may be required to complete our MBA preparatory course prior to beginning their MBA studies. The preparatory course takes approximately 1 semester to complete and is offered at an additional expense to the main MBA program.

Students who do not have an American bachelor’s degree (that is, a degree from an institution that does not hold American regional accreditation) must provide a WES credential evaluation with their application. If your undergraduate university or program does not appear on the following database of American regionally accredited colleges, then you must supply a WES evaluation with your application: http://chea.org/search/search.asp

How to Apply

Additional Requirements

Proof of proficiency in English

Teaching in the undergraduate and MBA programs at Touro College Berlin is conducted exclusively in English. All applicants whose native language is not English will need to provide proof of English proficiency. You may qualify for an exemption from this requirement if you have completed four or more years of full-time study in an English-language school located in a country where the dominant language is also English. As proof of proficiency we accept the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test scores from within the past two years. In general, we require a minimum score of 6.5 on the IELTS and 79 on the TOEFL.

Interview

Once a complete application has been received, the applicant will be invited for an entrance interview. For students applying from abroad a Skype or phone interview will be scheduled.

Placement tests

All incoming undergraduate students are required to participate in placement tests shortly before the beginning of the semester to assess math and English composition skills and allow placement in the correct level of courses.

Bank guarantee of solvency

This is not a statement showing how much money you have in the bank. It is simply a confirmation from your bank (or the bank of whomever will be paying your fees) stating that your accounts are in good standing and liquid. Some banks may wish to create their own letter, while others may prefer to simply fill out the form we have created for this purpose (download here).

Visa Requirements

Students from outside of the European Union may need a visa to enter Germany. Similarly, prospective students from outside of the European Union will also need to obtain a student visa to study in Germany. We strongly encourage all interested applicants to contact their nearest German embassy or consulate as early as possible. Processing times for visas can be crucial.

Transfer students

Students who have completed work at other post-secondary institutions may transfer at different levels, depending on the institution and number of credits earned. All transfer credits will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis to determine where they would fit into the curriculum sequence. Students must have earned a grade of C or better in the courses for credits to be transferred. If the credits were acquired at an American institution, that institution must be regionally accredited. Students who did not attend a US college may be required to obtain an ICAP evaluation from WES (World Education Service) in order to evaluate what each course equates to within the American system. Touro College Berlin will also accept transcripts displaying previous Yeshiva credits earned and evaluate them for possible transfer credit. Please note that the formal transfer credit evaluation is not completed until after a student has already successfully completed an application and been accepted at Touro College Berlin.

Visas

What is a Visa?

A visa is an authorisation issued by the representative of the government of a country permitting a person, not resident in that country, to enter its boundaries. Due to the Schengen Agreement concluded between the majority of EU member states, their citizens are allowed to travel between the Schengen countries without a visa. Citizens of third countries can enter the Schengen Area and access all member states with the so-called Schengen Visa. The Schengen Agreement includes the abolishment of border control between member states, which allows free and equal access to all of the member states, including Germany.

What is a residence permit?

Foreigners who are entitled to posses the legal status of a long-term resident in an EU member state will be granted a residence permit if the stay within the territory of Germany shall last longer than three months. Foreigners entitled to long-term residence are those who hold a residence permit bearing the designation “permanent residence EG” or “permanent residence EU” in the respective official language of the issuing EU member state. The general prerequisites for issuing a German residence permit, such as a secure livelihood, apply without restriction.

Do I need a health insurance for my stay in Germany?

For the most part, yes. You are required to provide travel health insurance on all occasions, with the exception of an airport transit visa.
