studied theology and Judaic studies in Germany and in Israel. He teaches at the Institut für Judaistik at the Free University. His research interests include Jewish mysticism, Jewish culture during the Renaissance, and the beginnings of Reform Judaism. He has published widely. He was one of the main forces behind the cooperation agreement between Touro College Berlin and the Free University.
