VA benefits procedures at Touro College Berlin
How do I apply for benefits?
- On the GI Bill website please complete the application using VONAPP to apply for benefits
- Required Documents: DD214 or proof of service, bank information, transcripts for all education post high school, and any kicker contracts.
- After the VA processes your paperwork, you will be sent a “Certificate of Eligibility”.
- Please take this certificate of eligibility to Touro’s VA liaison (Harriet Fenner)
- Confirm enrollment with the VA and stay up to date on the status of the application
How much are the benefits and what do they cover?
Assuming an individual is entitled to 100% benefits, they receive the following: (Based on Touro College Berlin, and the main campus of Touro College New York)
Tuition and school Fees (paid directly to Touro College)
- Up to $1,010 per credit hour
- Up to $12,293 per semester
Housing and living allowance (paid to the student)
- Monthly payment of $2,751
Books and supplies stipend (paid to the student)
- Annual payment of $1,000
Extras, bonuses or “kickers” if eligible
- Semi-annual payment at semester start (paid to student)
Tutorial assistance, licensing, or certification
- Up to $2,000
Licensing or certification
Exceptions:
- Spouses who are using transferred GI Bill benefits can only receive the housing allowance and book stipend, if the service member that transferred the benefits is not on active duty. This limitation only applies to spouses, not children.
- Transfer of benefits is only allowed while the service member is still on active duty.

What is the duration of the benefits?
The benefits are usable for 36 months.
- For example, if you attend College for the spring and fall semester, the summer months do not count, so that you will have used 8 months of benefits in a one-year period.
The benefits are subject to change and adjustments annually! It is important to keep track and stay updated on the changes.
