Dr. Michael Wachholz

American History, Introductory Course on the American Political System

Dr. Michael Wachholz received his graduate education in the United States and Germany, earning an M.A. degree in English from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and a Ph.D., magna cum laude, in American literature from the Free University of Berlin. In his theoretical dissertation Dr. Wachholz discussed the pros and cons of postmodern revisionary approaches to history, as propagated by such theorists and philosophers as Hayden White, Jean-François Lyotard, Michel Foucault and Michel de Certeau.

He has researched and co-written the scripts for a number of American documentaries on the history of science as well as an educational film on the Ravensbrück and Sachsenhausen concentration camps. Dr. Wachholz has taught courses on the relationship between history and literature and on Holocaust literature at Humboldt University and the Free University. At Touro College Berlin, he teaches American history and an introductory course on the American political system.
